As from this week Ewals Cargo Care has taken over the intermodal activities between Duisburg and Domodossola from the Crossrail Group. In the future Crossrail will entirely focus on railway operations, while Ewals Cargo Care will operate the intermodal services and commercially develop it under its own name and responsibility. Last Thursday - on the Transport Logistics exhibition in Munich - the contract has been officially signed and the take over has been effectuated since this week.
Within this agreement Ewals Cargo Care takes over all Crossrail employees in Duisburg and Domodossola, all current clients and 149 swapbodies. In the first instance Ewals Cargo Care will continue this service by offering daily trains from Duisburg to Domodossola.
In autumn 2007 the local activities, presently done in Domodossala, will be transferred to Novara and integrated into the Ewals Cargo Care office in Novara.
This take over is the next step in Ewals Cargo Care’s strategy to strengthen its intermodal activities as a complement to the road transport network. The combination of the 5 new trains together with the 9 existing trains out of Genk to Novara gives Ewals Cargo Care the opportunity to balance its exiting flows and to integrate new traffic, thus enhancing the intermodal shift.
With almost 3 trains a day in both directions, Ewals Cargo Care becomes the biggest intermodal service provider to and from Northern Italy.
