Driving down fuel consumption
There are multiple ways of reducing your CO2 emissions as a transport company. A first and highly evident one is driving down the fuel consumption of your trucks. With this objective in mind, Ewals Cargo Care has taken multiple actions the past decade.
Joep Everts (General Manager Trucking) says: “First of all, we invest in a truck fleet that lives up to the latest Euro emissions standard. These trucks produce less harmful pollutants. We’ve also defined a maximum driving speed and selected the optimal tyre pressure level. Besides that, we’ve worked on truck & trailer aerodynamics to reduce drag resistance. Additionally, our drivers’ driving style was analysed to be able to guide drivers towards more economical practices.”
All actions of this type lead to a reduced fuel consumption and, as a result, lower CO2 emissions. Taking the figures at hand, we can conclude that in 8 years’ time, we’ve reached a drop in fuel consumption of over 10%! Last year, we’ve still been able to drive consumption down with an additional 1,7%.
A complementary initiative to take is of course considering the use of alternative fuels like Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) or Hydrogen. This route is actively being explored as well. More related news will follow. Stay tuned!
