“Our CEO knows everyone by name”
After having worked as a truck driver for almost 15 years, Paul became a Planner at Ewals Cargo Care almost 5 years ago. Today, he is a Floater at the trailer planning.
“Some 5 years ago I made a switch in my career when I started working at the Ewals Planning Department. After 15 years as a truck driver, I wanted to do something different. Although I wouldn’t want to return to my old job, I still take pleasure in hitching a ride with a colleague, or get behind the steering wheel myself every once in a while. I have about 60 colleagues at my department at Ewals, and get along with each and every one of them. There’s a great vibe, we work hard, but we never forget that we’re all human. Our management tries to make sure we don’t stay at the office too late, and we regularly go out with colleagues for some relaxation.
What surprised me most when I started working at Ewals, is the sense of family at this company. At first it mostly seemed like a big company, but it didn’t take long before I was part of the team. You’re certainly not a number here. Our CEO, Bram Ewals, also contributes to that. On January 2nd, he personally visits everyone to wish them a happy New Year, and he knows everyone by name!
Since a couple of months, I have taken up a more senior role. In a buddy system, I watch over a new planner and help him to get settled. This is great for new colleagues, as they always have someone to call on for assistance or questions. Mistakes can happen of course, but we do address one another about them to learn from it. I like this new role in particular, as it helps my personal development too. Development in general is an important topic at Ewals. You’re being stimulated to participate in courses, which are often hosted at our own location, saving a lot of time. I completed my training to become a Planner at Ewals too.
