From Bronze to Gold: Our Journey In Sustainability

In 2023, we conducted our sixth self-assessment to measure our sustainability efforts, resulting in a bronze medal on the Ecovadis scorecard. This initial assessment highlighted areas for improvement and set the stage for our ambitious journey towards achieving Ecovadis Gold in 2024. How was this journey? Let’s dive in! 
 

Motivation for improvement 

As a family-owned business, we are committed to long-term sustainability. We value the legacy we want to pass on to future generations and recognize that enhancing sustainability is crucial to it. To successfully participate in the market, meeting customer demands while adhering to current laws and regulations and preparing for upcoming ones is crucial. 
 

Challenges on the path to gold 

One of the significant challenges we faced was the increasing norm of sustainability. As more companies enhance their sustainability performance, standing out becomes harder, requiring constant innovation and commitment. 
 

New policies and initiatives 

We focused on several key areas to improve our sustainability performance, including managing carbon emissions, promoting diversity and inclusion, ensuring health and safety, developing human capital, fostering sustainable innovations, and managing our own supply chain. We also implemented measures to safeguard data, such as ISO 27001, reduce internal waste, and conducted awareness trainings on cybersecurity threats. Finally, we created a comprehensive ESG report for 2023 to enhance internal transparency regarding our sustainability mission and strategy. This follows early preparation for the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, which needs to be applied as of the 2025 financial year. 
 

Collaboration across departments 

Achieving the Ecovadis Gold rating was a collaborative effort involving various departments. Each department was crucial in working on defined actions related to our sustainability goals and the ESG report. 
 

Future sustainability goals 

Achieving the Ecovadis Gold rating positions us among the top 5% of sustainability leaders within assessed companies. To maintain this recognition, our future sustainability goals involve a cyclical process of reviewing and updating our key focus areas to ensure they remain relevant. This ongoing commitment to sustainability will continue to drive our efforts to enhance our practices and maintain our leadership position in the industry.
