We see a bright future

At Ewals Cargo Care, sustainability is more than a goal — it's a guiding principle woven into everything we do. We understand that the long-term success of our business is deeply connected to our environmental and social impact. That’s why we embrace ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles as a framework and a commitment to creating lasting value for our customers, partners, and communities.

ESG Strategy

Rooted in over a century of family-led tradition, our ESG strategy reflects our dedication to ethical and sustainable growth. We blend heritage with forward-thinking logistics solutions, prioritising environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and strong governance.

Our ESG strategy and goals centre around three key strategic focus areas:

  • Reducing Carbon Emissions (Environment)
  • Optimising Employee Wellbeing (Social)
  • Cultivating Sustainable Business (Governance)

These three focus areas are also linked to three Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where we believe our business can significantly contribute.

Environmental: Reducing carbon emissions

Our environmental focus is reducing our impact on climate change. With an extensive transport fleet, our target is to lower carbon emissions. We integrate emission reduction measures into our strategy and action plans.

The most important efforts in this area include maixmising use of multimodal transports carried on our network by ensuring full use of road, rail, and short-sea solutions, as well as continuing to grow our large European Multimodal Network to ensure we have capacity to offer this to our growing Client base.

We also focus our efforts on minimising carbon emissions from our transportation assets and operating an enhanced third-party transportation network. Our energy management strategy is to control and reduce energy usage effectively throughout our operations.

We are committed to reducing carbon emissions with the following key initiatives:

Multimodal Solutions

In 2024, 80% of our transport was conducted via more sustainable modalities of rail and ferry. Further, 37,8% of our transported ton kilometres will be done via Rail and Ferry.

Alternative Fuels

Actively implementing strategies such as selecting HVO 100 and testing electric trucks, aiming to achieve over 1,000,000 litres of HVO in 2024.

Driver Training

Training our drivers in eco-friendly practices to further reduce emissions.

Technology Investment

Investing in the latest truck and trailer technology to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

Innovative Transport Solutions

We are deploying Super EcoCombi (Duo Trailer) projects in the Netherlands and Sweden to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions.

Our Journey and Future Goals: From awareness to action

Our commitment to ESG has grown steadily over the past few years. In 2022, we began by raising internal awareness across the organisation, laying the foundation for a more structured approach. This led to forming an official ESG team in 2023, dedicated to driving our sustainability goals forward.

We are now on track to achieve full ESG compliance by 2026, aligning our operations with the highest standards of environmental, social, and governance responsibility.

A key part of this journey is engaging with our stakeholders. We actively collaborate with employees, customers, suppliers, and institutions to promote sustainable practices and create shared value. By working together, we ensure that our ESG efforts are not only effective but also inclusive and future-focused.

A purpose bigger than ourselves

As a member of a global community, we understand that sustainability must be viewed through a worldwide lens. To this end, we refer to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This agenda was embraced by all United Nations member states in 2015 and presents a collective vision for peace and prosperity for both people and the planet, aimed for achievement by 2030.

At Ewals Cargo Care, we take initiative. We have pinpointed specific goals that align with our key topics and recognize these as having significant potential to advance sustainability within our business operations.

Collaborating to change the world

We understand that shaping a sustainable future extends well beyond our abilities alone. By partnering with others to share ideas and resources, we will make it a decade of diverse actions to help change the world. Today, we bring into practice a variety of initiatives.
